Hatchet 3: Hatchet 3 Horror Film is the third installment of the Hatchet film series. It follows the story of Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.
The film's greatest strength lies in its use of practical special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical and sets. This is different from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.
Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast and is a formidable villain. It feels like a slasher film from the 1980s and the dialogue is somewhat tongue-in-cheek and campy. There are also some genuinely funny moments throughout that provide comedic contrast to the heart-wrenching action.
Unfortunately because of the small budget (reportedly just $1 million) most locations used are repeats from earlier films in the series. The identical boat house was used two times within the movie and a lot of the film feels like it's been recycled from other films in this series. It's almost like it's familiar to viewers who have watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was (blog) enjoyable, even though it felt very similar in tone to previous entries in the series. It was filled with thrilling thrills and entertaining performances by the actors.
